Funchal pays homage to its patron saint, São Tiago Menor (St. James the Lesser).The historical centre of Funchal, particularly around Rua de Santa Maria and Largo do Corpo Santo, becomes the venue for special entertainment in a festival involving traditional Madeiran celebrations. The climax is a procession in honour of St. James the Lesser.
