DESCRIPTION:The fireworks show for the New Year lasts about eight minutes and is distributed across 59 fireworks stations located across Funchal’s amphitheater (27 stations)\, Pier 8 and Praia Almirante Reis (25 stations)\, at sea (5 stations) and Porto Santo Island (2 stations). \nThis grand show\, with pyrotechnic effects which combines the most modern designs\, will present effects not yet seen on New Year’s Eve in the Region. \nIn 2006\, this event was internationally recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as “The greatest fireworks show in the world”. \nThe New Year’s Eve Fireworks Show will also be broadcast live on RTP-Madeira\, and on social networks. The sound will be complemented by the Radio broadcast

SUMMARY:Cantar os Reis – Singing of the Kings
DESCRIPTION:This is one of the oldest and most popular traditions in Madeira celebrated on the 12th night after Christmas all over the island. A ritual that brings together families\, friends and neighbours who come out to the streets to “sing the epiphany” or “Janeiras” from door to door.The Association of the Casas do Povo organises and produces the traditional twelfth night songs show with a free concert to be held in the Auditorium of the Municipal Garden (opposite Café Teatro) in Funchal at 8pm. Outdoor concerts are held all over the island\, including Ribeira Brava and Câmara de Lobos. The traditional carols are performed by local musical groups.

DESCRIPTION:The Madeira Athletics Association (AARAM) promotes this major international sporting event.The event consists of three main races\, the Funchal Marathon\, the Funchal Half Marathon and the Mini Marathon.\nThis race will once again be run on a flat course\, almost entirely on a closed landscaped circuit\, offering the perfect setting for healthy competition between athletes from different nationalities. DESCRIPTION:This is a famous old Madeira festival enjoyed by the residents of Seixal\, a small village located near Porto Moniz. This traditional festival dates back over 60 years.This social gathering takes place early in the morning at Chão da Ribeira\, on the first Sunday after the religious feast of St. Antão\, an occasion where families come together to prepare the Panelo – a culinary dish made of vegetables and blood sausage\, very similar to Cozido á Portuguesa (Portuguese stew).\nThe Festival also features stalls\, selling local food and drinks\, along with lots of local musical and dance entertainment. A great day out!
